We’re looking for a Project Manager and Subject Matter Expert with a strong background in advanced bus operations and technology, such as real-time transit predictive systems, electrification, and bus rapid transit (BRT).
Position Overview:
As the Project Manager – Bus Modernization, you will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end management of bus modernization projects, from conceptual design through to full deployment. In this role, you will lead planning, ensure seamless integration of systems, and build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. We are looking for someone with both technical know-how of transit systems and strong project management skills to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning and Management:
- Lead the planning, scheduling, and budgeting of bus modernization projects, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
- Develop detailed project plans, manage timelines, allocate resources, and monitor progress to ensure alignment with SysEne’s quality standards.
- Coordinate project phases, from feasibility assessments through system testing, operational launch, and handover.
- Systems Architecture Development:
- Design and manage the systems architecture for bus modernization projects, including the integration of transit vehicles, operational processes, new technology, stations, IT/OT systems, fare collection, and control centers.
- Define technical requirements, oversee system configuration, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and project specifications.
- Conduct regular system assessments and optimization reviews to maximize efficiency, safety, and user experience.
- Stakeholder and Client Engagement:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication throughout the project.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, status updates, and technical briefings, addressing project progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Lead with empathy and build strong trust-based relationships with all stakeholders, aligning project objectives with client and community needs.
- Risk and Quality Assurance:
- Proactively identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to address them effectively.
- Oversee quality assurance processes and implement rigorous testing to ensure system reliability and high performance.
- Ensure all project deliverables comply with customer, operational, safety, regulatory, and technical standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, transport planning, electrical engineering, civil engineering, transportation engineering, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of experience in transit systems or bus modernization project management.
- Demonstrated expertise in bus modernization, including design, integration, operational changes, and deployment.
- Domain knowledge should include many of the following:
- Real-time transit information systems, from back-end to customer-facing systems
- Intelligent Transportation Systems such as traffic signal priority, advanced headway management, and automated lane enforcement
- Vehicle location and wireless communication systems
- Real-time service changes and disruption management
- Advanced CAD/AVL systems
- Operational process development and organizational change management of bus operations from schedule-based to real-time based.
- Bus electrification, including state of charge management, yard management, and charging management.
- Bus priority measure and modelling analysis for bus service and traffic modelling.
- Strong command of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working on large-scale urban mobility or smart city initiatives preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PMP, PgMP, or equivalent project management certification
- P.Eng. or equivalent professional experience
