Position 1: Consultant Project Manager – Real-time Systems

Company Overview

SysEne Consulting is a trusted partner in building smarter, more sustainable transit systems. We specialize in complex program and project delivery, offering holistic, integrated solutions that support long-term performance, innovation, and public value.

Our approach is rooted in the belief that EQ is as important as IQ. We take the time to understand how people, systems, and outcomes fit together — drawing on deep experience in stakeholder engagement, systems integration, and portfolio delivery. We see complexity as an opportunity to connect insights, align priorities, and guide meaningful transformation.

At SysEne, we don’t just deliver projects — we build lasting relationships. “The SysEne Way” is grounded in humility, curiosity, and a commitment to helping our clients succeed. Whether supporting transit modernization or operational improvement, we act as local expert guides who deliver the right outcomes through patience, flexibility, and technical insight.

Position Overview

We’re seeking a Project Manager to support a multi-phase modernization effort focused on improving system integration, digital infrastructure, and customer-facing tools across a regional transit network. While this role currently supports a major initiative around real-time transit information systems, it may evolve into other roles over time. This is a unique opportunity to work across bus, rail, and multimodal operations — helping shape the tools, processes, and systems that enable more coordinated, effective transit services. You’ll contribute to planning and implementation: coordinating pilots and full-scale projects, supporting system architecture design, and helping socialize long-term strategy — all while navigating evolving timelines and delivery constraints.

At SysEne, we bring structure to complexity through systems thinking and disciplined delivery — but never with a one-size-fits-all approach. Success in this role requires adaptability, empathy, and sound judgment. Ideal candidates have 5 to 10 years of experience, thrive in dynamic environments, and are motivated by improving public systems through thoughtful, people-centred change.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Management

· Support planning, scheduling, and delivery of transit projects across multiple phases, from pilot prototypes to full-scale system deployments

· Contribute to detailed project plans, resource coordination, and milestone tracking across bus, rail, and system-wide initiatives

· Coordinate work across feasibility, deployment, operational launch, and long-term transition activities

Systems Integration and Architecture Support

· Contribute to the design and alignment of system architecture — including hardware, software, vehicle-based tools, station infrastructure, and customer-facing channels

· Support integration of predictive engines, scheduling systems, signage, onboard technologies, and third-party applications

· Help document system configuration, workflows, and technical interdependencies using a whole-of-system lens

Performance and Optimization

· Participate in performance reviews, pilot evaluations, and benchmarking exercises

· Capture and communicate insights from early-phase deployments to inform future system enhancements

· Promote a culture of continuous improvement using data-informed decision-making and iterative delivery

Stakeholder and Client Engagement

· Prepare presentations, updates, and technical briefings for stakeholder groups

· Build strong relationships across functions such as planning, operations, IT, and customer experience

· Support shared understanding through clear communication

· Help clients in build internal capability across systems thinking and project delivery

· Help shape strategic direction and ensure momentum in organizational implementation

Risk and Quality Assurance

· Contribute to the early identification of delivery risks and support the development of mitigation strategies

· Help define and apply quality control standards that ensure system integrity, safety, and alignment with public-facing goals

· Support compliance with organizational, safety, and regulatory requirements throughout delivery

Competencies You Bring

· Comfortable working with incomplete information and evolving requirements

· Brings a balance of structure, systems thinking, and people-centred collaboration

· Able to navigate ambiguity and prioritize effectively in a changing environment

· Empathetic communicator who builds trust, empowers team members, and “leads from behind”

· Translates effectively between technical experts and broader stakeholders to ensure shared understanding

· Brings people along (internal staff, contractors, management) to cross the finish line together

· Balances real user needs with operational realities to deliver high-value, feasible improvements

· Motivated by delivering functional, equitable public systems that improve daily life

Qualifications

· Degree in a related field such as planning, engineering, information systems, business, or public policy

· 5-10 years of experience in consulting, public infrastructure, transit systems, or digital service delivery

· Large-scale project delivery within complex organizations or public agencies

· Systems integration spanning multiple products or services

· Communication across management, technical, and operational audiences

· Market and user experience research, requirements development

· Change management or technology adoption in public-sector settings

Nice to Have (Not Required)

· Familiarity with real-time information systems and technologies such as IoT, GPS, APC, CAD/AVL, prediction engines, or GTFS-RT

· Experience with service delivery environments involving vehicles, stations, customer messaging, and back-end operations

· Professional certification in project management, systems engineering, or delivery frameworks (i.e., P. Eng, PMP, CSM)

What We Offer

  • A meaningful opportunity to contribute to a transformative public transportation program
  • Flexible hybrid working model and a supportive, collaborative team culture
  • A salary range of $130,000–$150,000 per year, plus a performance-based bonus
